“Lisa King is one of a handful of people who I can honestly say changed the course of our family’s life.
Lisa worked with our daughter in the special ed preschool program at Alps Road Elementary, shortly after our daughter was diagnosed on the autism spectrum. At that point, our daughter needed so much help with things as varied as behavior, motor skills, speech, social skills and even self-care like hand-washing, dressing and toileting, that it was hard to know where to begin. We were not sure what outcome would be possible.
The work Lisa did with our daughter was nothing short of magical from our perspective. What it really represented, of course, was day after day of hard work, wisdom that comes from years of experience, and a great intuition for relating to kids. Lisa has a gift for being warm and accessible to the children she works with, while never relenting in what she expects them to accomplish.
Lisa was also an excellent communicator with us as parents–encouraging, yet realistic. She helped us extend the work she did with our daughter at school into consistent practices we could adapt at home. She was able to point us toward resources we needed outside of the classroom, and worked to connect us to other parents and families whose children were experiencing similar challenges.
Together with Lisa and the team she helped us assemble, our daughter met one IEP goal after another, laying a foundation for academic and personal success that has continued to this day.
Lisa has remained a friend and occasional advisor to us on both educational and parenting issues, even counseling us when we had IEP challenges at a school in a different state.
I highly recommend Lisa as a consultant to any family, whether their children are special needs, typical, or both.”
